Peter Drucker said that "the best leaders and managers speak and think in terms of We vs. I" in his introduction to the Effective Executive.

The modern science of human intrinsic motivation has unequivocally proven what Peter intuited in his work. The Self Determination Theory shows us the importance of what they call "relatedness" as a core ingredient in motivation. I’ve found that the best leaders create inspiring environments where the group of people being led authentically care more for each other, care more for their customers, and continue to autonomously develop capabilities in the pursuit of their shared goals.

A key job of leaders is to maximize this "flip" from "Me" thinking to "We" thinking.
